The recent spate of violent crimes in Odisha, particularly in the capital region, has raised serious concerns about the state of law and order in the state. These incidents, coupled with other crimes such as road accidents, drug trade, and crimes against women, paint a grim picture of the deteriorating security situation in the state. The fact that such heinous crimes occurred despite the police and intelligence agencies being on high alert raises questions about the effectiveness of the existing mechanisms to curb crime.
